The main focus of Cultural Intelligence (CQ) theories is to work effectively across cultures.

However, I believe that CQ is a skill that every individual needs to have in modern culturally diverse societies. CQ in this context means diversity, inclusiveness, openness, and tolerance, therefore, a culturally intelligent individual is the one who is able to communicate effectively and respectfully with people who have a culturally different communication style, to be open to inclusiveness and accept the uniqueness of the others, to learn from the positive aspects of differences rather than feeling threatened by them and to flourish in culturally diverse settings.

Therefore, I believe that CQ is very connected to Emotional Intelligence (EQ) in its comprehensive meaning and that a person can't be culturally intelligent if they are not emotionally intelligent. If someone is traumatised, stressed or unhappy and consistently in fight or flight response, they will feel threatened by any unfamiliar situation or style. They can't clearly think or learn therefore they can't be culturally intelligent.

As a result, emotionally and culturally intelligent individuals means a happy and productive workforce which contributes to the development of high-performance societies.

That's why I believe that CQ and EQ are core, comprehensive skills for happy individuals and communities, therefore, teaching our young generation and wider communities these skills is a key.
